Rex Southwick
Rex Southwick (b. 1997; London, UK) is a painter whose highly saturated, large-scale works explore domestic space through the lenses of ownership and aspiration. He works from images sourced via building contractors and construction site visits. Rex reimagines idealised homes at an incomplete, less imposing stage—where the “dream” is still under construction.
About
Rex Southwick’s paintings turn luxury architecture into a stage. He works from images sourced through building contractors and construction site visits. The spaces look sunlit and seductive. But they are often unfinished. That “behind the scenes” feeling matters. Rex Southwick focuses on modernist houses, from Palm Springs desert estates to villas in the south of France. In many works, he includes labourers and visible traces of construction. This brings narrative into scenes that usually feel effortless, and it introduces hierarchy and ownership. By translating glossy, online domestic imagery into paint, Rex Southwick turns digital fantasy into something physical—material, present, and impossible to scroll past.
